Connected Entertainment is the theme of the next generation of Microsoft products in the consumer space. We want to enable access to great digital content anywhere, anytime, on any device. The Content Access & Protection (CAP) Team is looking for a senior software design engineer to work on the design and implementation of our Microsoft PlayReady software. This is the latest version of a technology that has already found its way into Zune, XBox, mobile phones, TVs, and music players. The new features require a fundamental shift in the technology, and major architectural advancements. Our team will be tasked with understanding and implementing a solution for enabling advertising-supported content across servers, devices and PC’s. A focus area is on the newest, most compelling, device to join the media space – the mobile phone. As a member of this team, you’ll need to create solutions that allow multiple types of businesses to interoperate, products that run on a variety of operating systems, processors, and compilers, and you’ll be challenged with the intricacies of dealing with hard problems across a vast eco-system. You will be part of a team that develops technology that is used by companies creating millions of consumer devices. It’s not for the faint of heart! Strong communication and the ability to drive issues to completion are required. Good design aesthetics and security mindedness are very important. This is a fast-paced group that rewards smart and motivated individuals. You will have ample opportunity to diversify and grow. You must possess solid software development skills, expertise in C/C++, and be proficient in debugging. Knowledge of the Windows architecture and/or devices is desired. Designers will be challenged to create solutions that balance OO principles, layering, security, performance, and portability. Experience creating and implementing protocols is a plus, as is knowledge of XML. Relevant expertise in Digital Rights Management (DRM) or security related technology is also a plus. A BS/MS in computer science or equivalent industry experience is required.
