Introduction: The Financial Specialist- Cashier position is with the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), Unemployment Insurance Division located in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Special Notes: Due to the fiscal nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow the hiring authority to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. The ability to use a 10-key calculator or computer keyboard to accurately enter numbers will be evaluated as part of the selection process. Candidates will participate in a numerical data entry exercise at the time of interview. Job Duties: Work as cashier in receiving, controlling and depositing different types of funds to the Unemployment Insurance (UI) contribution and benefit accounts. Open and sort mail daily. Determine correct employer or claimant number, using applicable computer systems. Review all checks for correct amount, payee and signature. For incomplete checks, post-dated checks, or checks with the wrong payee, contact employer or claimants to resolve the situation, or request replacement checks. Use a printing calculator to compute the amount of checks to be deposited. Perform on-line data entry by keying the amount of each check into the automated computer system. Reconcile the amount of checks deposited to the amount entered in the automated computer system. Work as a team with the other cashiers to ensure that all receipts are processed and deposited by 4 p.m. daily in order to meet federal standards for proper cash management. Insure that all computer input is properly documented and batched. Maintain accuracy levels on 98% or better for payment transactions. Knowledge Required: Ability to look up information on a computer; to use a keyboard calculator; to key a large volume of information quickly and accurately; and to check and compare information. Basic math, reading and record-keeping skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet daily deadlines. Knowledge of billing system methods. Effective oral communication skills. Ability to perform on-line data entry on computer applications. Customer service skills and the ability to resolve conflicts constructively. Knowledge of methods to review information on forms, make decisions about the information and properly enter the data. Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions. Successful candidates will have the ability to perform data entry and use a 10-key calculator or computer keyboard to process a high volume of entries.
